NGO - Non Gainful Occupations

2013

‘There is no waste of any kind in the world that equals the waste from needless, ill-directed, and ineffective motions.

F.B. Gilbreth, A Method for Increasing the Efficiency of the Workman, 1911

It took 41.27 min to make the original pint holder. Analysing the motions involved in making the object according to the principles of Motion Study (as developed by F.B. Gilbreth) established that 934 of the total 2385 movements were ineffective. This amounts to 3.27 hours of wasted time over a working day of 7.5 productive hours. Editing the ineffective moments out of the work process and standardising the working motions allows for the production of 19 objects per day. This amounts to an increase in productivity of almost 50%.
